Beyond the shop floor – Something for everyone in PPLS in the retail sector

reatilIf your idea of a career in retail is of sitting behind a checkout being driven mad by the incessant beep of the scanner, and trying to making polite chat with harassed customers as they struggle to get out with their purchases ASAP – then maybe our Beyond the Shop Floor event can make you think again.

With organisations ranging from fashion retailers Abercrombie and Fitch, Next and UNIQLO to High Street stalwarts M&S and Boots, to the feisty (relative) newcomers-on-the-block Lidl and Aldi who’ve been shaking up our home-grown supermarkets, (who’ll be there too) via Majestic Wine Warehouses, Enterprise Rent A Car and more….there’s a wide variety of different organisations and roles to explore. (Check all 16 exhibitors and the panel events via the Events section in MyCareerHub)

Roles range from marketing to logistics to market research, buying, head office functions including IT, HR, finance …… the list goes on, and you’ll find your PPLS skills in demand in many of these roles.

Not convinced? Read about psychology grad Nic Badderley and his experience putting his psychological insights and stats skills to good use as an insight analyst and market researcher for Tesco Clubcard via dunnhumby.

And looking at the types of jobs entered by recent PPLS grads, you’ll find them in  merchandising (TJX Europe), HR (Burberry), management (Enterprise Rent-a-Car), marketing (Full Circle International), finance (Tesco), and more…..

So come along to our Retail – Beyond the Shop Floor event next Weds 22nd Oct, 6-8pm in the Business School. Do your research in advance (read our top tips on making the most of these events),  and come along to discover all the roles in this fast-paced career-area – you may find just the thing you’re looking for.
